Making the Cape

You Will Need:
- 2 Large Sheets of black sugar paper
- PVA Glue
- Pencil
- Silver and gold fabric paint
Instructions
- Measure a length of fabric from the child's neck, over one shoulder to the floor and double.
- Fold it in half and mark the centre point for the back of the neck.
- Measure and mark 7.5cm (3in) either side of the centre point.
- Cut 4cm (1.5in) wide strips from the outer edges to the start of the neck to make the ties.
- If the fabric frays badly, turn in the raw edge and sew or glue in place.
- Lay out fabric and cut a curved edge before cutting a zigzag line right around.
- Glue on stars cut from holographic card or sticky vinyl.
- Paint on star motif using gold or silver fabric/tulip paint.
Making the Hat
- Make a cone using one sheet of paper and glue the edges together.
- Use the second sheet to make the brim.
- The centre cone should sit snugly onto the head, the brim can be as wide as the paper will allow.
- Slip the brim over the cone and draw a pencil line where they touch.
- Remove the brim and trim the cone to 2cm from the line.
- Snip to the pencil line at 1cm intervals right around.
- Fold tabs up towards the tip of the cone and cover with glue or double sided tape on the right side.
- Slip the brim over the cone, press tabs against underside of the brim to stick.
- Decorate the hat with gold or silver stars.
Hair
You will need:
- Masking Tape
- Sellotape
- Tissue paper or use a scrap alternative masking paper
- Carpet fibre or wool scissors
- Open sheets of tissue paper out flat.
- Place side by side and join together with masking tape.
- Make vertical cuts at 2cm intervals to form the strands of hair, or use scrap materials such as carpet fibre wool or masking paper.
- Trim to the desired length before attaching to the inside of the hat.
Nose
You will need:
- Section of egg box
- Newspaper
- Masking Tape
- Green ready mixed paint
- Elastic
- Scrunch up newspaper into a small bundle and secure it to the egg section with masking tape forming a crooked nose shape.
- Cover with masking tape and paint green.
- Make two holes either side of the nose and thread with elastic.
Spider
You will need:
- Egg box
- Black ready mixed paint
- Pipe cleaners
- Cut the egg cartons into individual sections and paint them black. Use one section for each spider.
- Fold pipe cleaners in half and glue or tape to each section to make the legs.
- Attach to the hat with a black thread.
Moustache
You will need:
- Wadding or carpet fibre
- Glue
- Card
- Tape
- Elastic
- Apply glue to light card in the shape of a moustache and stick on wadding or carpet fibre, twisting it into a point at each end.
- Secure a length of elastic to the back of the moustache long enough to fit comfortably round a child's head.
Fingernails
You will need:
- Scraps of black sugar paper or sticky vinyl
- Tape
- Cut 10 nails from sugar paper or vinyl.
- Wrap the nail around each finger and secure with sticky tape.
- When using vinyl, clear the backing off just the area needed to attach the nail.
