After the bootcamp
You did the bootcamp, built the capstone, and the offers didn't come. You're not behind and you're not a fraud. You're one step short — and it's a step the bootcamp was never structured to give you.
The bootcamp sold a clean story: a few intense months, a capstone project, and a junior developer job on the other side. You held up your end. You learned the stack, shipped the capstone, polished the CV. Then you started applying, and the silence was deafening. Months later you're still sending applications, watching cohort-mates who "just got lucky" land roles, and quietly wondering if you wasted your time and money.
You didn't. But it's worth being honest about what a bootcamp does and doesn't do — because once you see the gap, you can close it deliberately instead of flailing.
A good bootcamp genuinely teaches you to build. It compresses the fundamentals, gives you reps, and gets you to the point where you can be useful on a team. That's real, and it's not nothing. But notice what it can't manufacture: proof that's credible to a stranger.
Your capstone, however good, has a fatal weakness in a recruiter's eyes — it's a bootcamp capstone. They've seen a hundred. They know the scope was bounded by the curriculum, the difficulty was tuned for learning, and nobody independent is vouching for how you actually worked. It proves you completed the programme. It does not prove you can survive a real ticket on a real codebase with real users. And that second thing is the entire question a junior hire turns on.
When the applications don't land, the natural response is to assume you're not good enough yet, and to go learn more — another course, another framework, another certificate. This is usually a mistake. The thing standing between you and a job is rarely another unit of knowledge. It's the absence of credible, real-world proof. Adding a fifth certificate to a CV that already has four doesn't address that; it just delays the actual fix while the clock on your recency keeps ticking.
The diagnosis that matters. Ask honestly: are you getting rejected at the technical stage, or never getting to it? If you're not even getting interviews, your problem isn't your skill — it's that nothing on your CV gives a recruiter a reason to believe you over the next identical bootcamp grad. That's a proof problem, not a knowledge problem.
What ends this stall is the one thing the bootcamp structurally couldn't include — a piece of genuine, non-curricular work on a live product, with someone credible willing to vouch for how you did it. This is the step that converts "finished a bootcamp" into "has already contributed to a real product and has a reference to prove it." It's a small jump in effort and an enormous jump in how you read.

Finishing a bootcamp and not landing a job doesn't mean the bootcamp failed or that you did. It means you've completed the part that makes you capable and you're missing the part that makes you provable. Don't answer that with more courses. Answer it with one real piece of shipped work and one credible voucher — the step the bootcamp couldn't give you, and the one that finally gets the replies coming.
